Cosby Show, The

The Daddy of all US Comedies

This classic America comedy stars much respected actor Bill Cosby and was firt broadcast in September 1984 and ran for eight seasons on NBC finishing in April 1992. The show focused on the an upper-middle class family, the Huxtable's, an African-American family living in Brooklyn, New York.


The show was the biggest TV hit in the 80's, and almost single-handedly revived the sitcom genre and NBC's fortunes. The Cosby Show helped to make possible a larger variety of shows starring African Americans, shows such as In Living Color to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The Cosby Show was also one of the first successful sitcoms based on the work of a standup comedian,  blazing a trail for other successful programs as Roseanne, The Drew Carey Show, Seinfeld, and Everybody Loves Raymond and up to todays Everyone Hates Chris . The show spawned the successful spin-off A Different World.
