THE OFFICE - AN AMERICAN WORKPLACE
It may not be black, but the humour in The Office is certainly dark, with Steve Carell taking on Ricky Gervais's role for the US version of the award winning show – and with Carell taking his own gongs, for best actor in the Golden Globes® and as part of the ensemble cast to win in the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
As well as changing David Brent's name to Michael Scott, the American Office changes the setting to the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. But, in season two, the boss is as bad as Brent when the office awards recognise the whitest sneakers, the tighest ass and the smelliest bathroom behaviour with the 'Don't Go In There After Me' award in the form of a statue of a squatting man.
And with a typically Brent way with words, Scott explains the company's sexual harassment policy to staff by telling them: 'Even though we're still a family here at Dunder-Mifflin, families grow. And, at some point, the daddy can't take a bath with the kids anymore. I am upper management, and it would be inappropriate for me to take a bath with Pam, as much as I might want to.' Season two is now available on DVD.
