LAW & ORDER - SERIES 4

In 1990, producer Dick Wolf decided to combine two popular TV genres – the police and the law - and the result was one of the most popular shows in history. Sixteen years and 50 Emmy nominations later, ‘Law & Order’ continues to excel at bringing powerful stories to its devoted followers around the world. In the UK it is regularly Five’s most watched programme, while series 17 is due to air in the US this autumn.

No show on television has remained as popular through so many major cast changes as ‘Law & Order’. The first three seasons were almost completely male dominated, both in the squad room and the courtroom. With Season Four, Wolf decided to introduce a more gentle touch. Although Detectives Mike Logan (Chris Noth) and Lennie Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) were both back, the squad was now under the command of Lieutenant Anita Van Buren (S Epatha Merkerson). Meanwhile, in the District Attorney’s office, Executive Assistant District Attorney Ben Stone (Michael Moriarty) got a new assistant, A.D.A. Claire Kincaid (Jill Hennessy).
