First broadcast on the USA Network in 2008, "In Plain Sight" and is presently filming it's third season in the US. In Plain Sight follows the professional and private life of Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack) a Deputy US marshall working in the highly secret Federal Witness Security Program (Witness Protection Proram) in Alberquerque, New Mexico. Mary Shannon has to balance her life protecting the witnesses, some innocent bystanders, others hardened criminals, from themeselves and those interested in tracking them down and doing them harm, and dealing with her dysfunctional family.

Mary is a capable officer if nonconformist she is often disrespectful of authority, and disinterested in typical feminine wiles. Known appropriately to her witnesses as Mary Shepard, she has a soft spot for them which often leads to her extending her care for them long past the time she should logically break ties. She had a difficult childhood, resulting from her father's and mothers's alcoholism and gambling, The actress Mary McCormack described Mary Shannon as "not a superhero" and "flawed and real.". At work Mary Shannon's partner is Marshall Mann (Fred Weller), they work well together and Mann has her measure, he both supports her but also stands up to her.

Marshall Mann played by Fred Weller is the latest in five generations of U.S. Marshals. He is not only Mary's partner, he is also her best friend, although he may or may not harbour romantic feelings for her. He collects trivia and seems to know a little about everything: what Mary calls "useless information". There is friction between Marshall and Mary at times, often due to Marshall's cerebral approach and Mary's gut instinct, though both are extremely protective of witnesses and each other.

Jinx Shannon played by Lesley Ann Warren is Mary's mother, Jinx ended up a single Mum after she was abandoned by her alcoholic husband to raise her two daughters alone. She adores her daughters Brandi and Mary, but she has never been a traditional, supportive, job-holding mother figure. She views Mary as the stable member of their family, and this inspires her to try and live up to her daughter's example and attempt to start over. Jinx Shannon harbors resentment against her strong-willed daughter Mary, though this only comes to the surface when she is under great emotional duress.  Now on the path to sobriety, is slowly becoming more reliable but is still some way from reponsibilty.

Brandi Shannon played by Nichole Hiltz, is Mary's younger sister and very much her mother's daughter and the baby of the family. She lives in the moment, has no education, preferring to get by on her looks and charms. Despite this, she respects Mary and, at times, sees her as an example.  Mary's nickname for Brandi is "Squish".

Raphael Ramirez played by Cristián de la Fuente is Mary's fiance. Raph played for the minor league baseball team the Albuquerque Isotopes and volunteers at a youth center. Right after being called up to the Florida Marlins, he tore the ACL in his knee and returned to Albuquerque to enter physical therapy. His relationship with Mary was complicated for a time when he becomes close to her sister Brandi, who calls him "Chico", and who helped him through his rehabilitation and was clearly attracted to him. He has retired from professional baseball, and has (at least temporarily) taken a job as a car salesman working for Peter Alpert.

All the indications are that a new and fresh Playback law enforcement hero has been born in Deputy US Marshall Mary Shannon, also the setting of New mexico has not been seen in recent years on TV, a refreshing change of venue from NY, LA or Miami.
