A Town Called Eureka

Season Three on DVD in January - pre-order now!

The town of Eureka came into existence at the end of the second World War, it was recognised that science and technology were going to be the deciding factor in any further conflict, not just the number of men and machines a country could put into the field. This had been shown by the impact which the atomic bombs and the Manhatten project had on the outcome of the conflict. It was decided that as a matter of priority, all the best brains and all the resources possible should be focussed into one place, and that one place was and is the small town of Eureka in the North West of the United States.

With the involvement of Einstien and his fellow scientific geniuses, President of the United States Harry Truman created the Top Secret development of Eureka, a town which from the outside at first glance looks like a typical small town but if you look closer most definitely is not.

No penny was spared the best architects and planners available were commissioned to design a welcoming place for the best and the brightest to settle, the town has the best possible health care education and just about everything else you can think of, and probably a great deal you have never imagined possible. This town does not appear on any maps, you cannot see it on Google Earth and no other nation can send over a spy satellite It is controlled by the government and everyone in town works in one way or another for the government.

For 60 years the town has prospered, but these have not been peaceful uneventful years, when you put this much brain power in one place and this much money all sorts of things can and usually do go wrong. On the bright side almost every scientific breakthrough from the Internet to micro wave ovens has been invented in Eureka. And this has gone some way to financing the project.

Scientists are only human and professional and romantic jealousy, addiction and depression, greed and all the other vices can be found in this idylic back woods corner of the Pacific north West

One rainy evening the world of Eureka collides with the world of JACK CARTER (COLIN FERGUSON) a U.S. Marshal sharp and charming quick witted but not bright by Eureka standards an everyman. His recent separation from his wife has left him at odds with his teenage daughter, Zoe, whose brushes with the law keep Jack Carter nearly as busy as his day job.  And it is Zoe's latest escapade that has Carter transporting her home in his custody when their car crashes outside the mysteriously unmapped town of Eureka.

The latest news on this superb series is Syfy Vice President, Mark Stern confirmed at Comic-Con 2009 in San Diego, that Season 4 of Eureka has been given the green light and will consist of 22 episodes. Season 4 is scheduled to commence in Q2 2010.
